When my husband and I walked in to the local shelter eight years ago, the attendant took one look at me and said, "There's a dog back there who's perfect for you!"
I hardly had a chance to respond before we were escorted to the kennel area where, there was this cute little black-and-white dog bouncing up and down! And I mean BOUNCING! I swear she had springs on her feet and was part cat! After checking out the other dogs, I asked to have the four-year-old girl brought outside. She ran around that little yard with more speed than any dog I'd ever seen. Her smile had sold me at the start, but watching her run around, looking as happy as she was, I couldn't let them put her back in the kennel. And thus, Kornflake came to live with us.
Since then, I've been through a divorce and several moves, but Kornflake's been a constant. She's kept that same happy face, even though she was very lonely after I moved back to Florida and had to leave our other dog with my ex-husband. I was considering getting another pet to keep Kornflake company when a stray calico kitten showed up. So now, Kornflake has her own kitten, SugarPop! She still acts like a pup, and she and SugarPop get along so well. I highly recommend adopting a shelter animal. They are the most loving animals, and I truly believe they know how special they are!
