From Denise:

Hi, My name is Denise and I will be starting Veterinary Assistant school in just over a week.

Now for a little more about me. I live in BC Canada and am 22 years old. At first, I did about 3.5 years at University doing an archaeology major which I liked but it wasn't what I wanted to do. So after finally listening to my husband and my mum, I found a new vet assistant program at a local college I decided to apply.

I had to do two days of observation as part of the application along with filling out a ton of other forms and writing an essay. I had a blast at my observation at the vet clinic my aunt takes her cats to. It is a teaching clinic and the vet who owns the practice is really nice. The clinic is beautiful and big and well laid out with all sorts of neat equipment.

The program is 6 months long and goes from October -- March with a 3 week practicum at the end. I took the summer off and have been sleeping in a lot so now I have to get back into doing mornings which has always been hard for me. I had to get some scrubs for my lab days, I love scrubs they come in so many fun colours:) I also got myself a new pair of what I call squishy shoes which are those funky crocs shoes but a pair without the holes which are nice and comfy for being on your feet all day.

I eventually hope to get into tech school after I upgrade my chemistry mark and would end up doing it via a distance education program unless the college that does the assistant program comes up with a tech program soon, since the school for the tech program is a 5 hour drive away and I cant just leave because my husband has a good job which he loves, and we own a townhouse, etc. -- it just isn't practical.

I own two orange and white kitties they are brothers and were adopted from a local shelter when they were 12 weeks old. They are now 1 year and 5 months old. One is called Kai Jazzpurr and I do cat agility and cat shows with him in the house hold pet division and his brother who is the trouble maker is called Loki. I also own two gerbils one is called Wub and the other Zug and 14 betta fish which are getting to be a handful, so some of my friends are going to take a few of them off my hands for me and give them good homes.

I am very excited and a little nervous about starting this program but I plan on working really hard at it I am also glad I am getting to have this Diary as it will be fun to write about my experiences. Take care and thanks for reading.
